Indonesian beef stew

400 gr beef for stewing
400 gr onions chopped
2 garlic gloves chopped
2 tsp flower
2 tsp curry powder
½ tsp ground coriander
2 tbsp ketjap manis
1 tbsp vinegar
2 tsp brown sugar
2 cloves
1 bay leave (small)
salt and pepper
sunflower oil (or any other high heat oil)
Cut the beef in cubes. Add two table spoons of sunflower oil to a wok and brown the beef with pepper and salt. Remove beef and set a side. Add one table spoon of sunflower oil to the pan and add onions and garlic. Add salt and pepper and fry until golden brown. Add flower, curry and coriander to the onions and fry for 1 or 2 minutes. Return the beef to the pan, add ketjap manis, vinegar, brown sugar, bay leave, cloves and enough water until the beef is just sub merged. Bring to a boil and simmer for 2½-3 hours.
If you like it spicy, you can add some minced peppers or sambal.
Serving tip: Basmati rice and cucumber salad.
